It has also inhibited incorporation of two structural units of DNA (uridine and thymidine) in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells, inhibited the growth of P388 leukemia cells, and demonstrated anti-proliferative activity against cell lines of human gastric cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, and mononuclear leukemia.

Coriolus PSP has reversed tumor-induced immunodeficiencies in sarcoma-bearing mice by increasing immunoglobulin G and C3 complement levels9. It has also been associated with increases in white blood cell count, serum IgG, CD4, CD8, B-lymphocytes, and neutrophils, along with a higher survival rate of tumor bearing mice3. Many of these effects have been attributed to PSP being a strong scavenger of superoxide and hydroxyl radicals. Coriolus Versicolor PSP has also been found to restrict the cell cycle of HL-60 leukemic cells through apoptosis.
These and other immune effects of PSK and PSP are described in reviews by Fisher and Yang, Ooi and Liu and Chu, Ho and Chow.

At 2.20 the MHRA meeting took place. According to Jean, the MHRA were very uninformed about the product (admitting this themselves). The MHRA showed images of numerous other smoking alternatives, and were taken aback to find that not one of the the 35 retailers supplied them. They were also surprised that not one of us claimed the e-cigarette was a smoking cessation aid.

The Vendors emphasised that the electronic cigarette was not a smoking cessation aid, and that it should be regulated by Trading Standards,  and not by the MHRA, as it is at present designated as a General Sales Product by HMRC.   Katherine Devlin explained that she had prepared an alternative regulatory framework, in consultation with various leading companies.  She proposed that the industry should be voluntary regulated, with a  Code of Practice to be agreed with Trading Standards and their governing body,   Failure to comply would be alerted to  trading standards as required by the industry as well as by TS normal checks.

We emphasised that the device is already regulated, by Trading Standards officers,  and that calling it “unregulated” – as the MHRA has being doing – is simply not true.

The physician present confirmed that blood absorption levels would have to be tested. There is a level above which nicotine affects a person’s metabolism. When it is above this level, it needs to need to be regulated in the UK. Our products may well be below this level, but unfortunately the attending physician did not know what level this is. Licensing fees

Plasma level of soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results showed that the absolute counts of T-helper lymphocytes (CD4+), the ratio of T-helper (CD4+)/T suppressor and cytotoxic lymphocytes (CD8+), and the percentage and the absolute counts of B-lymphocytes were significantly elevated in patients with breast cancer after taking Yunzhi-Danshen capsules, while plasma slL-2R concentration was significantly decreased (all p < 0.05). Therefore, the regular oral consumption of Yunzhi-Danshen capsules could be beneficial for promoting immunological function in post-treatment of breast cancer patients.

There have been several decades of successful clinical trials using PSK to treat head and neck, upper GI, colo-rectal and lung cancers with some reported success in treating breast cancer as well.  Clinical trials with PSK have recently been extensively reviewed by Kidd (2000) and will be briefly summarised here.  Almost exclusively, clinical trials have been carried out in Japan.

PSK and gastric cancer:

PSK has been used as a form of immunotherapy for more gastric cancer patients than any other cancer type.  In early 1970s Kaibara’s group began trialing PSK with their existing chemotherapy regimens for stage IV disease (Kaibara et al., 1976).  After surgical resection (partial or full gastrectomies), PSK at 3g per day was added to a chemotherapy regimen of Mitomycin C and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) (n=66). When compared with a historical control group, the 2 year survival rate was more than double, a finding that was later confirmed by Fujimoto et al. (1979) in a larger prospective study (n= 230).  Further studies by Hattori et al. (1979) (n=110) and Kodama et al. (1982) (n =450) suggested that PSK gave some protection against the immunosuppression that normally is associated with surgery and long-term chemotherapy.

One of the few double-blind randomised controlled trials (n=144) examining the role of single agent PSK found a significant increase in disease-free and overall survival.  PSK had significant effects on these patients immune systems as measured by increased delayed-type hypersensitivity on skin tests and enhanced chemotactic migration of neutrophils (Kondo and Torisu, 1985). All these studies suggest that individuals with very low immunity are less likely to benefit from PSK therapy than individuals with a reasonably competent immune system.  Other non- randomised trials in Japan have supported these findings (Mitomi and Ogoshi, 1986; Niimoto et al., 1988; Maehara et al., 1990; Nakazato et al., 1994).  Tsujitani et al. (1992) had previously observed that dendritic cells could infiltrate gastric cancers in some patients and biopsy examination correlated this dendritic infiltration of their tumours with an increase in disease-free and overall survival post-surgery.  It was concluded that patients with gastric cancer with limited dendritic cell infiltration prior to surgery when given PSK immunotherapy were more likely to have significant response.  The most recent phase III 2 arm trial of PSK in the treatment of gastric cancer carried out by the “Study Group of Immunochemotherapy with PSK for Gastric Cancer of Japan” showed that combining PSK with conventional chemotherapy significantly improved disease-free and overall survival (Nakazato et al., 1994).

PSK and other cancers

In a non-controlled, retrospective analysis of combined radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy (using PSK or OK-32, another immuno- potentiator) with 133 patients with oesophageal cancer, there were improvements in one-year and two-year survival (Okudaira et al., 1982).  In another more recent study PSK improved overall survival in oesophageal cancer in patients with levels of pre-operative high α1-anti-chymotrypsin or sialic acid (Ogoshi et al., 1995).  In a small scale trial in Taiwan for nasopharngeal carcinoma PSK adjunct therapy had a small but significant impact on five-year survival (Go and Chung, 1989).

In a study of 185 patients with epidermoid carcinoma, adenocarcinoma or large-cell carcinoma (≤ IIIb) given PSK as an immune system potentiator following radiotherapy, almost four times more patients who were treated with PSK had significant improvements in disease-free survival than those not given PSK (Hayakawa et al., 1993).  PSK was clinically significant with more advanced patients with Stage III disease than Stage I and II patients.  PSK had greater activity for older patients (> 70 years) and patients with small primary tumours. Early studies with breast cancer patients seemed to imply that long-term PSK immunotherapy in conjunction with chemotherapy could have beneficial results (Suginachi et al., 1984).  In a later much larger trial (914 patients) in-depth analysis implied that PSK significantly extended survival in ER-negative, Stage IIA patientswithout lymph node involvement (Toi et al., 1992).  However, in a further large trial, Morimoto et al. (1996) could find no statistical evidence of any benefit from PSK.

These contradictory studies may have been clarified by Yokoe et al. (1997) who compared HLA B40 antigen positive patients treated with PSK against B40 negatives.  It was found that B40-positive patients treated with PSK (3g/daily, two month course each year) in addition to chemotherapy had an improved 10 year overall survival rate compared to B-40 negative patients.  Thus, HLA B40 may be a predictive factor for PSK response.

The foregoing studies give strong indications of the potential benefits of incorporating PSK into some cancer treatments as an adjunct to radio- or chemotherapy.  Furthermore, PSK can improve immune status secondary to the side effects associated with traditional therapies.  As stated by Kidd (2000)  “after a quarter century of trials indicating PSK can improve cancer survival, the cumulative human findings amount to a recommendation for its inclusion in standard anticancer protocols. With its risk for adverse effects virtually nonexistent, PSK’s contribution to the benefit-risk profiles of these protocols can only be positive”.

While PSK has been almost exclusively developed and tested within Japan, PSP in contrast is a product of China and continues to be assessed for efficacy safety by their scientists and oncologists.  There is a close similarity between PSK and PSP polypeptides although PSP lacks fucose and instead contains arabinose and rhamnose.  Since the first development of PSP in 1983 there has been rapid progress through human clinical trials.  Phase I clinical trials were carried out by Xu (1993) and it was shown that an oral dose of up to 6g/day was well talented and lacking in side-effects.  Patients showed improvement in appetite and general condition, together with a stabilisation of haematopoietic parameters.

The Phase II study by the Shanghai PSP Research Group with 8 hospitals in Shanghai was carried out using patients with cancers of the stomach, lung and oesophagus. The dosage was 1g three times daily to a total of 190g.  Results confirmed the role of PSP as a biological response modifer improving the immunological status of the patients after surgery, radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy (Liu and Zhou, 1993).  Following the success of the Phase II clinical trials, a Phase III trial was conducted in a large cohort of patients (650) in Shanghai hospitals.  189 were randomised to taking PSP and placebo;  461 patients were unblinded to their therapy (Liu et al., 1999).  These trials showed that PSP improved disease-free survival of gastric, oesophageal and non-small-cell lung cancers while again substantially reducing the normal unpleasant side-effects of conventional treatments (Sun and Zhu, 1999; Sun et al., 1999).  PSP had a protective effect on the immunological functions of conventionally-treated patients, thus demonstrating that PSP can be classified as a clinical biological response modifier.  Other BRMs such as LAK cells, IL-2, α y IFN or TNF are also being used in the treatment of advanced cancer cases (Liu, 1999).  Yet, these drugs at effective doses, in many cases, produce quite severe side-effects such as fevers, chills, rashes, arthralgia, hypotension, oliguria, pulmonary oedema, congestive heart failure and CNS toxicities.  Mao et al. (1998) have shown dramatic anti-tumour effects when PSP was combined with IL-2.  As side-effects of IL-2 are dosage and schedule dependent, it isreasonable to expect that with PSP, a lower dose of IL-2 could be used clinically withsubsequent decrease in the severity of the side-effects (McCune and Chang, 1993).

A further observation noted that PSP in combination with radiotherapy induced a significant increase in the percentage of apoptotic cells at 24h, compared with radiation alone, and it has been surmised that the antitumour mechanism of PSPaction may also involve the induction of DNA damage by apoptosis in the target cancer cells (Stephens et al., 1991). A common adverse reaction of radiotherapy and chemotherapy is haematopoietic toxicity.  Several studies have shown a strong amelioration of thesetoxic effects by PSP (Shiu et al., 1992; Sun et al., 1999).

In a double-blind Phase II trial in Shanghai hospitals almost 300 patients suffering from gastric, oesophageal or lung cancer  were treated with conventional radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy together with PSP or shark liver oil (batyl alcohol).  Quality of life was assessed by marked improvement of clinical symptoms as well as improvements in blood profiles and/or immune indices and significant improvement in Karnovsky performance status or body weight.   PSP improved overall clinical symptoms, together with most symptoms associated with cancer therapy.  PSP was found to be effective for 82% of the patients compared with 48%for batyl alcohol (Liu and Zhou, 1993).

Many Phase III clinical trials of PSP combined with conventional therapies have demonstrated significant benefits against cancers of the stomach, oesophagus and lung (Jong and Yang, 1999; Yang, 1999).  Most studies with PSP have not fullyexplored the long-term survival benefit although in an open-label, randomised trial in oesophageal cancer has shown that PSP did significantly improve one-year and three-year survival (Yao, 1999).  Liu (1999) has commented on the favourable action of PSP in patients receiving bone autologous marrow transplants.

The corpus of laboratory and clinical evidence that PSP offers considerable benefits to patients suffering from cancers of the stomach, oesophagus and lung have led to the Chinese Ministry of Public Health granting it a regulatory license.

Mr G. learned about the remedy on the Internet and he can tell you all about it, having downloaded nearly 400 studies.

Amazingly, Mr. G.’s liver cancer reduced to less than ten percent of its original size. His CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) cancer marker fell more than two-thirds from 296 to 97.9.

What is Coriolus Versicolor?

Like all mushrooms, Coriolus versicolor is a fungus, one of more than a half million varieties worldwide. Many of them have been known for thousands of years to have medicinal properties. And as you may know, gourmets the world over prize both wild and commercially grown mushrooms. Some European cookbooks even call them “flowers of the fall.” Whatever you call them, certain mushrooms are a perfect food for staying trim and healthy. They have little or no fat and some species, like Coriolusversicolor, boast valuable therapeutic and nutritional benefits. But a few fungi are poisonous and we do not recommend that nonexperts attempt to harvest their own. Coriolus versicolor goes by a number of botanical names, including Trametes versicolor and Boletus versicolor.

“Versicolor” refers to the mushroom’s various colors. In North America, the common name is “turkey tail,” while in Japan it is called by a name meaning “mushroom by the river bank” and in China its name indicates it’s a cloud fungus that grows best in the rain.

Over 400 clinical studies have shown that a purified extract derived from the mushroom Coriolus versicolor offers strong benefits for the immune system. Clinical studies indicate the extract’s ingredients are especially effective against stomach, uterine, colon and lung cancer.

Anecdotal evidence and clinical experience suggest it also works well against prostate, breast, liver and colorectal  cancer. Studies of rats and mice show that this mushroom is effective against many experimental animal cancers such as sarcoma and hepatoma.

Martha I.’s lung cancers disappear

“Of course,” says Dr. Bailey, “some cancer patients take Coriolus versicolor even while they engage in radiation treatment or chemotherapy. Or the patients don’t submit to chemotherapy or radiotherapy at all but rely, instead, exclusively on nutritional therapies with the medicinal mushroom as the main treatment ingredient.

“For example, one of my patients, Martha I., a 34-year-old woman working in the health field, consulted me with a cancer spreading at two sites in her lungs. Orthodox treatment had been tried but no longer was effective. She discontinued her smoking of two cigarette packs a day and embarked on nutritional therapies.

The nutrients included Martha’s completing six months of taking Coriolus versicolor. After this halfyear, radiological examination showed that all of her lung tumors had disappeared. Seeing her current progress, orthodox medicine probably would declare this patient to be cured.”

Blood tests show how the mushroom boosts immunity

I spoke with a doctor who measures natural killer cell (NK) counts and considers them a valuable cancer

marker. Kenneth Bock, M.D., is the medical director of two holistic medical clinics, one in Rhinebeck, New York and the other in Albany. “Because it increases natural killer (NK) cell activity, I think of using Coriolus versicolor mainly when I’m confronted with a patient suffering from cancer or a viral infection,” he says. “This mushroom is one of the main medicinal compounds I use to boost a diminished blood reading which records NK activity. The mushroom’s active biological response modifier produces a marked improvement in NK cell function and number, something I monitor by blood testing. If the blood reading is low, my patient takes greater amounts of PSK capsules. And, although it’s an expensive and sophisticated assay, I repeat my NK cell testing inside of a month or two. In a number of patients, I’ve seen some nice blood test improvement.”

Dr. Bock finds that a few patients with advanced metastatic cancer see their NK counts jump from 2 or 3 to a normal 20 to 50.

Patient’s immune system recovers

“I can illustrate what I’m saying by providing a before-and-after case history plus the literature that backs my claim,” Dr. Bock states. His patient was a white, married computer consultant named Marty E., sixty years old and suffering from high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis when he was also found to have polyps on his larynx. These were removed, with radiation therapy as a follow-up. But then Marty E. was also found to have prostate cancer.

“His blood test showed diminished natural killer cell activity at the level of 6 m/u,” Dr. Bock states. “Still, Marty wanted no conventional therapy for prostate cancer. So I started him on alternative medical therapies for prostate cancer and to improve his deficient NK cell activity. Coriolus versicolor was a definite part of his treatment regimen.

“Within two months, the patient’s NK cell activity elevated to 18 m/u. And two months after that his NK cell activity increased to a normal 31 m/u. Now the man is doing well physically, and he tells me he feels great! I would say this type of response to the  PSK therapy is usual; the patient’s quality of life does improve dramatically and he or she feels asense of well-being,” according to Dr. Bock.

A naturpathic doctor named Tori Hudson told of her clinical experience using PSK for breast cancer patients during and after chemotherapy. “My impression is that patients taking Coriolus versicolor are experiencing less side effects from chemotherapy such as diminished fatigue, less nausea (but not less hair loss), and more stable white blood cell counts. I have not measured natural killer cell counts,” she states.

Animal studies confirm what patients see for themselves

Animal studies show PSK is effective against a long list of cancers including melanoma, sarcoma, mammary cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer. Studies also show it inhibits metastasis to other sites. The studies indicate PSK enhances the immune system and battles cancer cells. It’s been shown to prolong the survival time and stimulate the production of cancer antibodies in mice with cancer.

PSK is also a potent antiviral remedy that may hold new hope for HIV-AIDS. It even lowers cholesterol in animals and speeds up recovery from burns in rabbits when used in combination with the herb Astragalus membranaceus.

Can be used in combination with conventional treatments

Human patients who have decided to stick with conventional chemotherapy and radiation therapy need to know that PSK renders these toxic treatments much more effective, as shown by a number of clinical studies.

A Japanese study looked at the effectiveness of 200 phytochemicals (plant substances) when used in combination with chemotherapy and radiation. Coriolus versicolor was found to be the best of the bunch. The researchers suggest that this medicinal mushroom seems to protect the immune system from being suppressed by prolonged use of chemotherapy drugsand by the cancer itself.

Further investigations indicate a marked improvement in the survival rates of chemo and radiationpatients taking the mushroom therapy when compared with those who did not. For patients with Stage I lung cancer observed over ten years, the tumor shrinkage and survival rate was 39 percent for those taking PSK compared to only 16 percent for patients receiving the toxic therapies without the mushroom extract. That’s a huge difference––more than twice as many survived and/or improved with the help of PSK.

Those lung cancer patients with more serious Stage II cancer experienced a 22 percent tumor shrinkage and survival rate over ten years when they took Coriolus versicolor orally while being treated with chemo or radiation. Among the people who didn’t take the herbal remedy the figure was a mere five percent.

From this study of 185 lung cancer patients it appears the mushroom extract can make the toxic therapies anywhere from two to four times more effective.

A Japanese study of 262 gastric cancer patients tested the mushroom’s efficacy following surgery. During a follow-up period ranging from five to seven years, the half who received the mushroom extract survived at substantially higher rates. The researchers concluded that PSK was a useful adjunctive therapy to surgery and chemo.

A Japanese study of breast cancer patients found similar results: Those who received PSK along with chemotherapy had better outcomes than those who did not. And a study of 28 patients suffering from acute leukemia––all on chemotherapy––showed an average survival time of 21 months for those who took the mushroom extract and 12 months for those who did not.

It is hardly worth getting yourself off of tobacco if you are going to jump out of the frying pan into the fire!

Induction of S phase cell arrest and caspase activation by polysaccharide peptide isolated from Coriolus versicolor enhanced the cell cycle dependent activity and apoptotic cell death of doxorubicin and etoposide, but not cytarabine in HL-60 cells.

Activation of the cell death program (apoptosis) is a strategy for the treatment of human cancer, and unfortunately a large number of drugs identified as cell cycle-specific agents for killing cancer cells are also toxic to normal cells. The present study demonstrates that the polysaccharide peptide (PSP) extracted from the Chinese medicinal mushroom, Coriolus versicolor, used in combination therapy in China, has the ability to lower the cytotoxicity of certain anti-leukemic drugs via their interaction with cell cycle-dependent and apoptotic pathways. Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated that pre-treatment of PSP (25-100 microg/ml) dose-dependently enhanced the cell cycle perturbation and apoptotic activity of doxorubicin (Doxo) and etoposide (VP-16), but not cytarabine (Ara-C) in human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60 cells. The antagonistic result from combined treatment with Ara-C and PSP may be caused by the removal of HL-60 cells in the G1-S boundary by PSP before exposure to Ara-C. A negative correlation between the increase in apoptotic cell population (pre-G1 peak) with the S-phase cell population expression (R2=0.998), the expression of cyclin E expression (R2=0.872) and caspase 3 activity (R2=0.997) suggests that PSP enhanced the apoptotic machinery of Doxo and VP-16 in a cell cycle-dependent manner and is mediated, at least in part, by the PSP-mediated modulation of the regulatory checkpoint cyclin E and caspase 3. This study is the first to describe the cell cycle mechanistic action of PSP and its interaction with other anticancer agents. Our data support the potential development of PSP as an adjuvant for leukemia treatment, but also imply the importance of understanding its interaction with individual anticancer agents.

When it comes to the comparison between the dangers of smoking tobacco against those of smoking the revolutionary electronic cigarette, regulatory bodies such as the FDA and MHRA along with ‘anti smoking lobby groups such as ASH have done the public a great disservice and allowed lobbyist of the financially interested to ‘muddy’ the truth to protect financial profit.

Whilst this is not something new and many readers will read on with a cynical, all knowing smile, it belies a more serious point to the writer, who as a smoker for many years and a proponant of e-cigarettes has come to realise that the ‘regulatory body that cried wolf’ had missed the more important role it was meant to serve which was protection of the public interest and not that of the drug companies and tobacco lobby.

For whilst a revoltion is taking place and the introduction of electronic smoking as opposed to tobacco could be viewed as the single most important step forward in public health since the introduction of innoculation, it doesn’t come without dangers of its own.

The primary concern for this fledgling industry is the source of production which is almost exclusively China.

Now I am not one for bashing the largest manufacturer of the worlds goods for no reason. But when a product such as electric cigarettes and the consumable nicotine refill cartridges that accompany them are produced in a country that is undergoing an industrial revolution not akin to the one experienced in the UK in the nineteeth century and combines the competition of the globe with such a lack of regulation that they are unable to milk a cow without adding something indigestible to it, then you have to worry a little.

Especially when, where electronic cigarettes are concerned, using the wrong grade of its primary ingredient, Propylene Glycol can mean the difference to inhaling something completely safe by all recognised standards, to inhaling an industrial toxin capable of equalling or surpassing the worst effects likely to be achieved by smoking tobacco.

I am, therefore somewhat pleased to announce that at least one US company had the merit to ensure that the cartridge refills it supplies are manufactured in an FDA registered laboratory using only pharmecuetical grade materials. The Japanese owned laboratory is bound to independently verify the ingredients and these are then prominantly labelled on every container.

“Our study also provides evidence that smokers may indeed smoke, in part, to improve their mood — a notion that has been quite controversial in the field,” he said.

The team’s findings are scheduled to appear the week of Sept. 11, 2006, in the online edition of the journal Psychopharmacology and will be published in print in November.

The research was supported by the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression.
Scientists have established that people prone to depression  are twice as likely to be smokers, and are less likely to succeed in quitting smoking after taking up the habit, according to McClernon. The Duke study explored the theories behind the higher smoking rates among people experiencing depression.

“Smokers may be more prone to depression than nonsmokers,” said Edward Levin, Ph.D., a professor of biological psychiatry and researcher at the Duke center, who was senior investigator in the current study. “Or, people with depression may be self-medicating by smoking, albeit in a deadly way.”

In the study, the researchers recruited 11 people who did not smoke but who were experiencing symptoms of depression. Participants were randomly assigned to wear either a nicotine patch or a placebo patch that did not contain any nicotine. The researchers used a standardized method, a 20-item questionnaire called the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale, to measure depression symptoms among the study participants.

“Despite the small number of participants, this is the largest study of its kind,” McClernon said.

The team found that participants who wore the nicotine patch for at least eight days experienced a significant decline in their depression-assessment rating scores. McClernon said this finding indicates that the drug led to an improvement in depression symptoms.

As a possible explanation for how nicotine exerts its beneficial effect, McClernon said: “The same areas of the brain that are stimulated by nicotine appear to be involved in the regulation of mood.”

Nicotine stimulates the release of specific neurotransmitters, including serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which carry messages between nerves cells. Depression has been linked to chemical imbalances of these neurotransmitters, McClernon said.

Looking ahead to possible therapeutic uses of nicotine for treating depression, the researchers say the nicotine molecule can be manipulated to remove its addictive effect while maintaining its ability to increase levels of the various brain chemicals that can alter mood.”

Even at this point though, they are still wavering to sucumb to drug company pressures to classify the new technology as a medicine. The same drug company lobby that has effectively been ripping off smokers with NRT treatments like patches and gum that have been shown to be expensive and completely ineffective in helping people stop smoking. They say life begins at 40 and maybe they are right. We passed some great milestones in week 40 of our Inlife busness. First we passed 100 online retail sales. We then passed 500 people in our downline organisation. Both of these achievements I put down to merging the old methods of network marketing alongside the new internet based vehicles that are available to help get your message out to the people who are looking online to improve their all.

Probably the biggest milestone came this week when I received an e-mail out of the blue to an article on this blog from former Winston Man David Goerlitz.

David has been campaigning against big tobacco for more than 20 years and also moved away from tobacco control when it set itself on a path to demonize smokers and fell under the control of tobacco and drug companies who were intent on enhancing their product profits more than helping smokers.

I started smoking when I was about eighteen. I put it down to pier pressure, a new school, trying to fit in etc. Since I started I gradually increased the amount I smoked until I was on about 50 a day.

Q.  So how did you come across the electronic cigarette and…tell us what happened.

Well it was my wife who first discovered it. She was introduced to it by a neighbor who had heard that she was going in for dental surgery. It was fascinating…. but my initial reaction was that it wouldn’t replace my tobacco cigarettes but could come in handy when we were out, in a bar or restaurant. So I really tried it for that purpose.

Q. So What Changed?

Well, we were moving into a condo at the time…where you couldn’t smoke…well you had to go out onto this tiny balcony. It was a pain and when it rained etc..you get the picture.

So I started using the electronic cigarette more and more and soon, after about three days I started to enjoy it more than the tobacco. In fact I can honestly say that after three days smoking my Regal I started to wonder why I ever smoked tobacco. It was like smoking the ‘uncut’ stuff! It was cleaner, smoother…just totally more enjoyable.

You know about two months down the road we had returned to Spain and I ran out of cartridges and had to buy a pack of cigarettes…wow…who would have thought..it was like sticking my tongue in the ashtray.. I guess you de-sensitize to all the crud in a cigarette over time so you just dont taste it..that’s probably why it took a couple of days to get used to the taste of the electronic cig. It takes that amount of time just to get ride of the build up in your mouth of the tobacco crud.

“After three days smoking my Regal, I wondered why I ever smoked tobacco. It’s like smoking the ‘uncut’ stuff’!, cleaner, smoother….wow!”

Q. So it wasn’t the health issues that made you change?

No, but of course they are a consideration..you know…every smoker knows..knows that its killing them slowly. But it doesn’t make us quit.  So to say I moved to electronic because of self interest would be a half  lie. At the back of my brain was something telling me…hoping that this would be easy to do…that it would get me off tobacco…which would save my life. Lets be clear here though. I understand that there are no health benefits to an electronic cigarette. The benefit is allowing me to continue to smoke and feed both the addiction to nicotine and the habit of smoking, which i enjoy…without having to use tobacco as the delivery system…that’s the benefit.

I honestly didn’t think it would be possible…but it works…worked. I look forward to my e-cig with my first cup of tea in the morning. I get it out at the table after dinner…even at my parents! something i would never have done with a cigarette.

Q. What about the press reports and the recent court case with the FDA that say it is unsafe?

Look, I am an intelligent guy. I did my homework. I read the studies and the FDA report and put all the facts together before I started. It is one of the reasons I got involved with Inlife LLC. They are the only company that manufactures cartridge refills in an FDA registered lab. That means that the ingredients are independently verified so you know exactly what you are smoking. The rest of the cheap chinese copycats out there online need to either get on board with verification or be taken out of the market. There is no point in moving from one thing that will kill you to smoking something else that you later find out has god know what in it. I remember the chinese milk and the toy thing that happened in China…everyone does. But what I am smoking now..that is verified independently…it  has no known cancer causing agents in it…..for me its got to be the single most important breakthrough in public health that has occurred since….innoculation.

Of course you are fighting the two biggest lobby groups probably on the planet…the drug companies that make millions from patches and gum that are only 4% effective…not surprising that they are worried. i mean, something comes along that actually works…where do think there profits are going? yea, right down the toilet with their gum!

You know what I would like to see. i would like to see Obama get involved and stand up if he is the man we thought we all voted for and say…I am not going to let the lobbyists win this fight…c’mon, its will have a bigger saving than anything put forward in the health bill. It will save more lives in terms of harm reduction than any patch, gum or TV advert will ever achieve. I know it needs some regulation but a lot of that regulation is in place in terms of verification already…if inlife can do it…make anyone who wants to sell them do it as well.

We already have Congressmen & Senators using them. This is one fight that needs to be won on the facts and not the interests of the drug & tobacco companies.

Q. You feel strongly about the issue?

Yes i do. So much that I got involved with company that is doing most to get the message out to the people that need it.

We smokers are a funny breed.  We hate being told what’s good for us.  We will back ourselves into a corner and fight like a wildcat. I think it comes from being lectured to,  by everyone down to our own parents about ‘what you are doing to yourself’.

I am just hoping that as a smoker, through and through, I can get the message across to other smokers that this is a great thing. It is better than smoking tobacco…as I said…cleaner, smoother..just more enjoyable….and dont forget cheaper as well!….. and you dont have to give up any of the things you love about smoking to stop smoking the brand that kills you…i.e. tobacco.

Thats good, I like that…just change from the brand that kills you to a brand that wont! I might use that in a banner!

In a ruling by a Washington Federal court, the judge critised the FDA for overstepping their authority in seizing imports of electronic cigarettes by two importers and by trying to regulate the industry.

In his ruling the judge agreed with the electronic cigarette submission and said that electronic cigarettes were the ‘functional equivilent of traditional cigarettes’

The FDA recently gained the power to regulate tobacco products but as electronic cigarettes do not contain tobacco ( or the carcinogens contained therin!) then they were not within the remit of powers of the FDA to regulate.

So its week 32, nearly eight months into the business and things are really starting to kick off. We have 360 in our downline business and are expecting to cover all our bills and expenses this month from the Inlife income.

The one thing I can say at this point is that if you are considering a home business and I personlly think this company has some of the best products and markets around, then expect it to take a while to build your income stream….and most of all…..don’t give up.

You see, I can now see why so many people fail in MLM. They stop short. They see months of work disappear because they don’t look at the long term income available.

Network Marketing is unlike any other business model, in that you put the work in at the front end for little compensation. The alternate though is, that you receive the benefits with less work at the back end.

They are the bad guys but I also know that it matters little to a smoker whether it is going to kill them or not. If you smoke, you smoke. Patches and gum have been proven to be totally ineffective and useless.

So for all you fervent anti-smokers out there who think they can all just stop at a moments notice. I suggest you start plugging electronic cigarettes as the solution in an imperfect world to a serious problem.

Which brings me onto New years resolution number two. Make some extra Money.

Gone is need (as is found with most cheap chinese e-cigs) to buy 6-12 batteries a year.

Gone is the danger associated with handling liquid nicotine that many suppliers of electronic cigarettes force their customers to suffer.

I could go on….but I am a smoker not a preacher and I know too well from experience that smokers hate being preached to!

My last thought is this.

The first time someone said free radicals to me i thought they were talking about the closing down of the prison at Guantanamo Bay!

But being inquisitive by nature I started to do my own research about free radicals and how the effects of antioxidants in foods can limit the damage that these substances do to the body.

A free radical is an atom or molecule in the body that has ‘lost’ one of its negative particles (electrons). Because of this the atom or molecule has become positively charged and reactive.

Because of this positive charge the ‘free radical’ atom or molecule starts being attracted to or repelled from other charged molecules in the cell and effectivelt starts bouncing around causing damage to your bodys cells.

This oxidation process occurs all around us. It is what turns Iron into rust. So when it occurs in the bodys cells it is thought to be a part of the ageing process of the cells of the body and thus the ageing process per se.

The theory of free radical and ageing was first put forward by Dr Denham Harmon MD PhD

Enter the ‘Antioxidants’. These are foods and vitamins that stop the free radicals from ‘oxidzing’ sensitive biological molecules in the body and therefore help to slow the ageing process and damage caused by the free radicles.

Antioxidants include Vitamin C & E and can be found in a number of food groups that have been commonly nicknamed the Superfoods.

My name is Neil Ebsworth and I first came across Inlife and their range of electronic cigarettes back in April 2009 when our neighbour Mary lee offered a device to my wife at our home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

The MLM, multi level marketing business model just meant there was scope to make a higher than normal income by marketing products under the conditions I mentioned above.

It took about an hour from being introduced to the product to finding out that the company had yet to launch themselves into Europe. As my wife and I had a little transatlantic thing going on, with homes in Spain and the US and the obvious ties with the UK, I was determined to be at the forefront of any such launch and if necessary would make it happen.

Well that was then and this is now.  Here we are on the eve of the pre-launch of Inlife UK. It has taken nearly eight months of work but we have made it. The inlife business is now available to UK residents and the scope for making either a part-time or full time income is open to everyone.

Now here are a couple of things to remember before considering becoming a distributor for Inlife. Things I have learnt in my time in this MLM company.

1. Please do NOT think that it’s a ‘Get Rich Quick’ sort of business…..it is not.

2. Success only comes before Work in the dictionary, so be prepared to put the hours in if you want to be successful. The best thing I have found with network marketing is, that there are a lot of people around to help you succeed but ultimately your success is down to your work ethic.

3. be in it for the long term. The residual income ( One of 5 ways to get paid) can take up to 2 years to kick in in sizeable figures. You can make money from Day1 but get it fixed that this is a long term project to become financially secure.

Two areas of the retail sector that the UK has in abundance are corner shops and pubs. At first glance these two out lets may not seem to have much in common but on closer inspection they have two goods in common. Cigarettes and Alcohol.

For both the economic recession has been tough and the need to boost income should be an idea that most shop and pub owners will be happy to listen to.

Here are how the figures pan out.

I have mentioned before that with just 25 retail customers an independent distributor can make 8.00 a pack on retailing refills for the electronic cigarette buy buying in bulk (box of 50). Ask them to compare this to the retail profit on sales of tobacco.

Also, you could point out that selling the refills to their existing customers will bring those customers back to their shop/pub time and time again to buy refills….and other items from their shop/pub. The product not being widely available in the large supermarkets means that this can be a market the small independent owners can own for themselves.

To recap what’s in it in terms of profit.

If the shop retails just 25 units they will supply on average 100 boxes of refill a month - Profit 800.00 a month - ( Plus retail profit om 25 units ( up to 1000 depending on scale of purchase)

At 50 units the monthly profit 1600.00 ( Retail up to 2200)

At 100 units the monthly profit equates to average 400 boxes a month or 3200 a month  RECURRING income.

A new distributor can start with as little outlay as they like but I would suggest for a store or pub, the BIZ6 or higher increases margins and is wekk within acceptable parameters.

It breaks down like this.

If you become a distributor of inlife electronic cigarettes and coffee you get to buy not only the units at wholesale but also the refill cartridges.

At one time or another we have all explored the anti-oxidant philosophy, looking to improve our lifestyle choices and live a better life. The industry as a whole is enormous with many different companies, many of them MLM companies providing many differring juices which provide high level anti-oxidant content to help purge the body of the toxins we manage to pump into it on a daily basis!

It’s like the saying ‘ The best thing since sliced bread’

Well sliced bread I found out last night, was invented in 1928. A time when they thought tobacco was good for you! so I can’t really use that one.

I use the cell phone as an example, since it was the last time we witnesses a shift in social behaviour on such a scale that it changed the way most of us lived. The electronic cigarette is starting do do the same thing for the millions upon millions of smokers in the world.

So if you could go back to 1985 and someone invited you to become one of the first businesses selling this new fangled phone that you carried around with you. The service wasn’t great all the time….they weighed a ton….but he insisted they would get better, lighter, and in a few years everyone would have one…and you could make money on the calls that everyone you introduced to this new device….. would you jump at that opportunity now?

Well thats basically the conversation I am having with you now.

Do you want to get involved in a new home business opportunity marketing and selling a device that is new technology, that’s improving all the time….that in a few years…every smoker in the country will be using to smoke…
